Make a Difference with Your Old Technology

At ROANEnet, we believe in the power of technology to transform lives. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide by providing low- and no-cost computers to those in need within our communities. The ROANEnet Digital Lab, located in Harriman, TN, is at the forefront of this initiative, where our dedicated team of volunteers and interns refurbish donated technology for redistribution.

Your Donations at Work

The demand for accessible technology greatly surpasses our current supply. Donating your unused computers, laptops, and other electronic devices directly supports individuals, schools, and community organizations in East Tennessee.

What We Accept

ROANEnet welcomes a wide range of technology donations:

  • Computers and laptops
  • Smartphones and tablets
  • Printers, copiers, and scanners
  • Televisions and audio/video systems
  • All related accessories and peripherals
  • Batteries and more

Items that cannot be refurbished are responsibly recycled through our partners, ensuring a sustainable approach to electronic waste.

Preparing Your Donation

To facilitate the refurbishing and recycling process, we kindly request:

  • Please do not remove the hard drive or memory from your devices. Removing these components incurs additional costs for us to replace them. We have a secure data destruction process in place to protect your information.
  • Minimal packaging: Please recycle any boxes through your local curbside program.
  • No paper manuals or software collections: Dispose of these at home due to licensing restrictions.
  • Untangle cords and cables, securing them with a rubber band or twist tie.
  • Attach power adapters to their associated devices.

Secure Data Destruction Guaranteed

Your privacy is our priority. ROANEnet is a licensed Microsoft Third-Party Refurbisher (TPR), the only one in Roane County, TN committed to secure data destruction:

  • All data-bearing devices are processed in our secure data area.
  • We follow the National Institute Standards and Technology (NIST) SP800-88 guidelines for data sanitization.
  • Our processes adhere to the International Secure Information & Governance Management Association (i-SIGMA) bylaws and the NAID membership code of ethics.

How to Donate

To contribute your technology to ROANEnet, bring your donations to our partner, Pattersons Home Appliances in Harriman, during their business hours. Your donation not only aids in our environmental efforts but also significantly impacts the lives of those needing digital access.

Together, we can build a more inclusive and technologically-equipped community. Thank you for considering ROANEnet for your donation.
